Natural Hardwood for Saunas and Steam Rooms (Aspen, Alder, Linden)

Natural hardwood is a classic solution for sauna and steam room interiors. Aspen, linden, and alder have been used for decades for wall and ceiling cladding as well as for sauna benches due to their eco-friendliness, low thermal conductivity, and resistance to humid environments.

Unlike softwood species, hardwood does not release resin when heated, making it safe and comfortable for use in a steam room.

We offer Grade A products — completely knot-free, carefully selected, and subject to strict quality control.

All materials are kiln-dried to 8–10% moisture content, ensuring dimensional stability and long-term durability.

Why Hardwood Is Chosen for Saunas

Aspen, linden, and alder provide the essential properties required for sauna environments:

✔ No resin release

✔ Low thermal conductivity (the surface does not overheat)

✔ Resistance to high temperatures

✔ Good performance in humid conditions

✔ Dimensional stability with proper installation and ventilation

These qualities make them ideal for sauna cladding and bench boards.

Natural Wood Cladding

Natural wood cladding is used in:

• Saunas and steam rooms

• Relaxation areas

• Shower zones

• Residential interiors

The tongue-and-groove system ensures a tight fit and a clean, elegant appearance.

Grade A Means:

• Completely knot-free

• Smooth, even surface

• No cracks or visible defects

• Kiln-dried to 8–10% moisture content

• Stable dimensions and precise geometry

This ensures both visual appeal and reliable long-term performance.

Bench Boards and Sauna Seating

The sauna bench is the most heavily used element, as it is constantly in contact with the body and exposed to heat and humidity.

Therefore, the wood must be:

• Perfectly smooth

• Completely knot-free

• Properly dried

• Resistant to temperature fluctuations

Bench boards made from Grade A aspen, linden, and alder with 8–10% moisture content:

• Reduce the risk of warping

• Maintain dimensional stability

• Extend product lifespan

• Provide a safe and comfortable surface
